Hi Chris, I switched over to black oil whole sunflower seed only and not a mix variety.
I noticed a big change in the amount of birds that are coming to feed.
Before we would get a flock of smaller birds that would eat everything quickly and now we are getting fewer small birds. Mostly Cardinals and pigeons.
One day I noticed that the birds were not coming around and I thought it odd. Then one morning I saw the remains of a bird and thought a cat had gotten it. That night I heard a sound in the backyard and open up the door to see a large owl sitting on the service line to the house. It was very close and only the second time in my life that I saw an owl. It was light in color, almost white with some brown.
